Carteret Health Care (CHC) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) are pleased to announce that they have reached a new multi-year agreement. Mutual goals in this negotiation were to ensure that Carteret County citizens have high quality, affordable health services and resources available to them and their families today, and in the future.

We’re committed to sustaining a Culture of Safety on our Journey to Zero Events of Harm. With this said, we also focus on our individual habits that can reduce medical errors and have implemented Behavioral Expectations and Error Prevention tools as defined in our C.A.R.E. Bundle:
C – Communicate. SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation for handoffs); Clear communication (read/repeat backs; phonetic/numeric clarifications; document legibly); Ask clarifying questions.
A – Action. Speak Up for Safety using ARCC (Ask a question, Make a Request, Voice aConcern, Use Chain of Command); STOP, validate, and verify before proceeding in the face of uncertainty; Model safety behaviors.
R – Review. S.T.A.R. Stop to concentrate on the task; Think about the task; Act or perform the task; Review or double check to ensure that the task was completed correctly.
E – Educate. Peer Checking/Peer Coaching; Peer checking to prevent a co-worker from making a mistake, peer coaching to encourage and praise co-workers for performing correct behaviors.
