The Cheltenham Fire Company is responsible for the protection of the residents of Cheltenham Township in the 4th Fire District. Our active force is composed approximately 40 active Firefighting members. Of these members, 5 are female and 4 junior members (under 18yrs of age.) We run approximately 200 calls per year and conduct in-house training every Friday night.
The role of the Cheltenham Fire Company has become very dynamic. We are a community-oriented organization, striving to educate and protect the residents in our district. We conduct a senior-citizens outreach program for smoke detectors, installing detectors for those that cannot physically or financially do so. There is an aggressive Community Relations Committee, which encompasses Fire Prevention and Public Relations. We have many other committees that are available for members to contribute to, each with its own specialty and purpose.
50 years ago, our volunteers were your local trades-people. They were your plumbers, your contractors, and your auto mechanic. They didn’t think twice about closing down shop to go put out a fire. Many families were also able to rely on a single income to make ends meet. Nowadays as families are working multiple jobs to survive, volunteerism is dwindling. This is a nation-wide epidemic. Many people think “someone else will do it.”
The Cheltenham Fire Company is actively recruiting volunteers. Age is not a requirement, the desire to do something good is. Stop in any Friday night at the station, call us at 215.379.2212 or send us an email at [email protected]. Make a difference today; join your local Volunteer Fire Company!
