Christ Church is the oldest church in Newton and the second oldest in the Diocese of Newark. The parish traces its origin to December 29th, 1769 when a "Congregation in Communion with the Church of England" was organized in what was then called New Town. The parish was incorporated by royal charter on August 15th 1774. Today that sheepskin charter hangs under glass on the west wall of the nave. We are the Episcopal Church in the the heart of Sussex County. We are centrally located just south of the intersection of Route 206 and Route 94 in Newton.
