About Us
Christ Presbyterian Church began in April of 1956 as an extension of the First Presbyterian Church of East Cleveland. The Chesterland Chapel, as it was then known, began with about 25 people and met in the cafeteria of West Geauga High School.
Mr. Daniel DeArment served as pastor and, after completing his final year of studies, became the first ordained and installed pastor for the church.
The Chesterland Chapel officially separated from the mother church on October 13, 1957, and at that time became Christ Presbyterian Church.
In October 1958 a building committee began the planning and design process to have a church to be built on Chillicothe Road property, generously donated by the Ralph Schwarz family.
Ground was broken on May 14, 1961, and on Christmas Eve of that year Christ Presbyterian Church held its first service in its own sanctuary.
As the congregation grew, a larger sanctuary was needed, as well as additional classrooms and a library. On May 21, 1989, ground was broken for the new addition, which was dedicated the following year, on September 9, 1990. The new sanctuary holds 400 people, and the former sanctuary enjoys frequent use as a fellowship hall.
