Citizens Hose Co. No. 1 of Wernersville, PA is an all-volunteer fire department serving the Borough of Wernersville, South Heidelberg Township, and several surrounding communities through mutual aid agreements. More than 40 members of our community currently serve with us as firefighters and fire police.
On December 1, 1894, the citizens of the community of Wernersville met in Kreitzer’s Hall for the purpose of organizing a volunteer fire company to protect the life and property of the community. The name chosen at this meeting was Citizens Hose Co. No. 1.
The Citizens Hose Company No. 1 was incorporated May 20, 1901 and joined the Berks County Fireman’s Association in 1903. Also in 1903, the company purchased a four-wheel combination chemical hook and ladder wagon that could be drawn by men and horses.
