Algonac is a city in St. Clair County, Michigan. In 2010, the census reported the population at 4,110.

Algonac is 1.4 square miles and is located at the southern end of the St. Clair River.  At the center of Algonac is the Algonac City Park, which contains a half-mile long boardwalk along the St. Clair River.

Algonac was first settled by John Martin in 1805.  In 1836, it was the fourth village laid out on the St. Clair River.  In 1863, itwas described as containing “a church, two or three saw-mills, a grist-mill, woollen factory, and about 700 inhabitants”.

Algonac is situated on “the largest fresh-water delta in the world”, at the mouth of the St. Clair River. Many canals wind their way throughout the city, which has given Algonac its nickname of “The Venice of Michigan.”

Algonac embraces its nautical contributions, being the birthplace of Chris Crafts Boats and the former home of Gar Wood. Situated on the St. Clair River, it has earned the nickname of “The Pickerel Capital of the World.” Take advantage of the free boat launch and the Algonac Harbor Club, one of the largest deep water marinas accessible by the Great Lakes.

While downtown, stroll along 1,800 feet of boardwalk and find charming shops and restaurants to savor the small-town atmosphere. The Algonac-Clay Historical Museum boasts local history with models of pleasure boats built right in town. There is also ferry access to Walpole Island, Canada. Algonac brings summer events such as the Annual Pickerel Tournament, Algonac Rotary Art Fair and waterfront concerts in the park.
