About Us:

Clever was incorporated in 1896 and operates on a Council-Mayor form of government. We are located between Billings and Nixa on Hwy 14 and just south of Republic on P Hwy.

People come to Clever to start and raise a family because we have an outstanding school system, low crime rate, and local businesses. Additionally, we just far enough off the beaten path to have that small town feel yet just minutes away from larger metropolitan areas.

Our small rural community has been one of the fastest growing cities in Christian County over the last decade. Our population has risen from 1,010 to more than 2,139 in the last census. Along with a growing residential community, we have continued to have good business growth as well. Some of our businesses include Dollar General, Subway, Casey’s, *** N Go, Family Pharmacy, Murfins' Market, Clever Technology, two tire shops, and an independent auto parts store. Additionally, we have many new restaurants to choose from.
The City is in cooperation with the Clever R-5 School District and MODOT to advance the community by starting Phase 3 of the “Transportation Enhancement Program” with building more sidewalks. The school district itself is one of the best in the region, and has completed building a second FEMA storm shelter.
