About Us:

The City of Costa Mesa was incorporated on June 19, 1953. However, Costa Mesa's roots reach back long before that. As early as 1769, a "Way Station" for the Spanish missionaries was established on the bluffs of Costa Mesa. The Way Station, known as Estancia Adobe, is now a historical landmark and can be found in Estancia Park on the westerly side of the City.

Since its beginnings as a small agricultural town, Costa Mesa has undergone many changes. During World War II, it was the home of the Santa Ana Army Air Base training facility for Army Air Corps pilots and one of the largest training bases in the world at the time.

Today, Costa Mesa is a regional center for commerce, with a wide array of educational, social, and recreational amenities. Costa Mesa has more accessible parkland than any other city in Orange County. We are also home to South Coast Plaza and the Performing Arts Center - two world-renown facilities known across the country as well as internationally. The City's many points of interest include: outstanding educational facilities - Orange Coast College, Vanguard University, and Whittier School of Law; Orange County Fairgrounds and the Pacific Amphitheatre; South Coast Repertory Theatre; the future world-class Renee & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall (to open September 2006); three beautiful golf courses; the Noguchi Gardens; 208-acre Fairview Park; and a 15,000 square foot skate park (to open June 2005). Our climate, amenities, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean make Costa Mesa uniquely appealing to residents and businesses alike.

Costa Mesa has a thriving business community, from the "mom-and-pop" shops and boutiques to major retail, auto dealerships, and manufacturing industries. Major business headquarters, including Automobile Club, Billabong International, Emulex, Experian, Hurley International, and Rip Curl call Costa Mesa home. We have marvelous eateries, eclectic cafes, and fine dining establishments as well as fabulous hotels and inns. Costa Mesa has something for everyone.
