The Parks and Recreation Department offers the community a variety of programs and recreational opportunities all throughout the year. During the spring and summer, the ball fields located on Western Avenue are busy with baseball and softball programs; new playground equipment installed in 2004 brings families together as they watch their children play. Young children may also enjoy the playground equipment at Everts Park, located just west of the Highwood Library on Highwood Avenue. A number of events, including summer concerts and farmers’ markets are held at this park each summer. In 2004, a new family park opened to the public on the south end of town near the Burtis Avenue and Summit Avenue intersection. Equipped with a children’s play system, this new addition to our community will be enjoyed by many children and families for years to come. When the weather gets cold, the community’s Recreation Center, located on Green Bay Road, is busy all throughout the winter with basketball and other types of fitness programs.
