About Lebanon
Lebanon is located at the edge of the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the Mid-Willamette Valley. Strategically positioned at the junction of U.S. Highway 20 (Santiam Highway) and Oregon Highway 34 (Tangent Street), Lebanon is 8 miles east of Interstate 5, 90 miles south of Portland, 45 miles north of Eugene, and 70 miles east of the Oregon coast.
Lebanon is a growing, vibrant city that offers its 13,000 citizens a variety of cultural and sports activities, yet still maintains a small town, neighborly atmosphere. A brief overview of the Lebanon community includes approximately 34 churches, 31 restaurants, 13 real estate offices, 4 grocery stores, and a city library with a circulation of 80,000 books, periodicals and videos.
Activities can vary from attending Cascades Performing Arts recitals, to visiting the indoor shooting range downtown. Community services include a Senior Center with many associated programs, the Boys and Girls Club, a Historic Resources Commission, and a number of community organizations. Approximately 11 covered bridges, some of which date back to the early 1930's, are within a 45-minute drive of Lebanon. A wealth of historic homes and buildings can be found within the city.
Lebanon is well situated for those who appreciate Oregon's scenic and recreational amenities. The snow-capped Cascade Mountains to the east offer year-round recreational opportunities including fishing, hunting, boating, camping, backpacking, hiking and skiing. Fishing, swimming, canoeing and rafting can all be enjoyed on the beautiful South Santiam River flowing through Lebanon.
The South Santiam River with its public boat landings, riverside parks and two reservoirs make it a river that can be enjoyed by all. The Willamette Valley offers an array of activities including golf, tennis, hang-gliding, fishing and boating; as well as exploring historic towns, covered bridges, universities and wineries. The Oregon coast, located 70 miles west of Lebanon, is famous for its scenery, beaches, sport fishing, campgrounds and quality hotels.
Lebanon offers a large and diverse labor force. Over 44,000 workers were employed in the 1994 Linn County Labor Pool. A population of over 120,000 is located within 20 minutes of Lebanon. This area includes the cities of Albany, Corvallis, Sweet Home and Lebanon as well as adjacent rural areas. The labor force is well educated and provides a good mix of skilled laborers, manufacturing and office professionals.
Housing alternatives in Lebanon are wide-ranging in style, age, cost and surroundings, multi-family dwelling units, hundreds of farms within 20 miles, and rural homesites. The cost of housing is affordable compared to other West Coast locations.
