About Us:
The Midland community provides the amenities of big city life with all the charm and security of a mid-sized community.
Midland has experienced interesting initiatives in economic development during the past 15-20 years. An emphasis on the revitalization of Downtown Midland has resulted in the construction of a new City Hall, a four-story County Administration Building, a three-story office building and parking ramp, and a building renovation for the United Way and its agencies. A 150-apartment senior citizen complex and a 144-room hotel and conference center has added to and enhanced the development and growth of the downtown area, as has the development of more restaurants and specialty shops to draw residents and visitors alike to the area.
Downtown Midland received a Michigan Main Street designation in 2005,one of only four communities in the state to receive the recognition in that year. The Main Street program, part of Gov. Jennifer Granholm's Cool Cities Initiative, has resulted in an increased focus on developing a long-term, sustainable business district and enhance the downtown's economic position.
Midland is also home to a regional shopping mall, constructed in 1991 and located on Eastman Avenue just north of US-10. The Midland Mall featuresfour anchor stores complemented by more than 60 specialty and name-brand shops. Many retail stores, hotels, restaurants and entertainmentfacilities have located in the mall area, helping to bring a full range of shopping, dining and leisure opportunities to area residents and visitors.
