Plainview is a progressive, small town in southeastern Minnesota located 21 miles from Rochester, the region’s major metropolitan city. Plainview is fourteen miles from hunting, fishing and boating on the Mississippi River. The Whitewater and Zumbro River Valleys are less than five miles from city limits. Carley and Whitewater State Parks are within fifteen minutes of Plainview!  The city is also located at the western edge of the 2,000,000 sq. miles Richard J. Dorer Hardwood Forest, which covers parts of Dakota, Fillmore, Goodhue, Olmsted, Houston, Wabasha, and Winona Counties.  Plainview residents are fifteen minutes away from four recreational areas within the Forest.

Plainview is the agricultural hub of Wabasha County.  Lakeside Foods, Inc. and Plainview Milk Products are major food processors that market locally-grown and produced products nationally and internationally.  ABA Water Systems, Inc. and A.W. Beadblasting are two companies that provide components and services to high-tech manufacturers throughout the U.S.  Overall, more than 100 businesses in Plainview provide jobs to about 1,500 employees.

Plainview offers its residents and visitors plenty of opportunity for fun and adventure.  Plainview's eight parks offer walking/biking trails, picnic areas, play equipment, tennis courts, softball diamonds, and an archery range.  The walking trail is one of the most used recreational facilites in the City.  The black top paved trail is almost a mile in length.  There is also a 9-hole regulation length golf course just outside the city limits for folks to enjoy.
