Troy is a city located in Pike County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 13,935. The city is the county seat of Pike County, positioned in South Central Alabama, and operates on Central Standard Time.

Many years ago the Pike County was a large frontier served by two railroads. Later, as highway transportation became even more important for agricultural products, two US highways helped make Troy, the county seat, the hub of farming activity as well. At all times the prevailing "pioneer spirit" has been a major force in the development of the area from one economy base to another. Today, with this  same pioneering spirit, Pike County is taking the lead in the progression from a stringently agrarian economy to a more industrialized market.

Visitors may want to visit the Troy historic district, one of the oldest sections of the city, boasting some thirteen antebellum homes and a magnificently restored downtown square. Another place of interest is the Pike Pioneer Museum, located on 15 breathtaking acres of wooded land on US Highway 23, north of Troy. Here you will find the last frontier land this side of the Mississippi- a place where you can still see the way Early Pikecountians lived over one hundred years ago.
