Clay Hill Middle School is located in upper Dorchester County in the quaint town of Ridgeville, South Carolina, roughly fifteen minutes from Summerville and approximately twenty minutes from the county seat of St. George. It has the quiet appeal of a small community school. Students enrolled in Clay Hill Middle School are transported from parts of the Harleyville, Dorchester, and Ridgeville communities. Our facility houses grades six through eight. The current principal of Clay Hill Middle, Mr. Kenneth Pinkney, has over 30 years of experience. His diverse staff serves a student body of sixty-four boys and eighty girls for the 2006-2007 school year.
Formerly an elementary school and later an alternative school, the building took on the new identity as Clay Hill Middle School beginning with the 2005-2006 academic school year, to alleviate overcrowding in grades six, seven, and eight at St. George Middle; and at the urging of parents in the community. The reopening not only allowed a shorter commute for students but, also a decrease in class size (student/teacher ratio) for both schools. Exploratory teachers are shared between the two schools for the last two blocks of the day. The curriculum specialist, literacy coach, career specialist, and social worker also commute to both Ridgeville and St. George.
