The Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival, named one of our Nation's "Elite Festivals" by National Geographic, was started in 1966 to show off the beauty of the Cohocton Valley. It began on the lawn of the Richcraft Motel and neighboring homes on Maple Avenue. In 1968 they began their famous "Tree Sitting Contest" with just three participants in the yard of Jean and Paul Carey. Through the years the contest grew and was moved to the school. The Festival itself is now held on the Town & Village Greens and features many Arts, Crafts, Flea Market, Antique and Food Vendors. There is entertainment in the gazebo all weekend long.
