About Us
The Colfax Lions Club is a local chapter of Lions International, the largest community service organization with over 1,403,433 members in 185 coutries and 44,450 clubs worldwide.
The club was organized in May 1928 and chartered in June 6, 1928 by local citizens. The founding President was Arthur Cunningham who was inducted by District Governor Dr. W. D. Wells of Riverside assisted by Deputy Dist. Gov. Beryl Babcock of Sacramento. Colfax Mayor Robert A. Peers welcomed the Lions to Colfax and gave them the keys to the city. Some 150 Lions and friends from Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City, Newcastle, and Roseville filled the Memorial Hall for the installation dinner.
Lions International was founded in Chicago during 1917 by Melvin Jones. In 1925 Helen Keller charged the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness". Since that time Lions have been primarily focused on sight preservation and activities supporting visually impaired individuals. Our moto is, "We Serve".
