The Collings Lakes Elementary School strives to follow the district's philosophy that "all children can learn". Students accomplishments are rewarded with praise. Their failures addressed with understanding. Students at the Colling Lakes Elementary School were treated to an exciting school year. A year long theme served as an academic and motivational celebration for both studnets and staff. Support services included three full time Resource Center teachers for special education students, a Speech-Language Specialist and two Reading Specialists.
The special area teachers in Physical Education, Health, art, Music, Library, World Language, and Guidance are shared with the other district elementary schools. Outstanding results with NJ ASK 3 and 4 were noted in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Both grades exceeded the requirement by having more than 75% of the totlal population score in the proficient or advanced proficient category. Our school again received a grant to participate in the "Reading is Fundamental program.
This program enabled our students to receive free books through the year. The staff continues to volunteer their time to plan activities that promote school and community involvement. These activities have increased student student awareness and have strengthened community relations. The Fifth Grade Award Ceremony and the School Play concluded our yearlong theme that was incorporated into each class in various ways.
The Kindergarten Music Program and the Annual Holiday Musical were just some of the many programs coordinated by our staff. The annual visit to the Collings Lakes Firehouse highlighted Fire Prevention Week and helped gain respect and awareness for the important roll that these people play in our community. Contributions to the "Friends of Joey" foundation continue to upkeep and improve our playground area.
A well-organised PTO is another positive highlight. These volunteers spend countless hours with fund raising projects to contribute to many class trips, assembly programs and school activities. School Spirit Days were held to encourage students and staff to "show off" their school colors.
