Derry Area Revitalization Corp

116 East First Ave
724-689-7266

A small group of concerned residents formed the Derry Area Revitalization Corporation (DARCee) in 2009 to help bring new life to Derry Borough, Derry Township and New Alexandria Borough.

In the first six months since it's inception, DARCee removed more than 90 tons of debris from what was a highly visible illegal dump on Norfolk Southern Railroad property adjacent to the Leo Street bridge on Route 217.
Seventy-two volunteers gave 483 hours of their time and individuals and businesses donated supplies and services to enable the clean-up-worth at least $7,000-to be completed at no cost.

DARCee is currently in negotiations with Norfolk Southern Railroad to utilize over five acres of this property as a community space through a lease agreement with the railroad.  Plans include developing the Derry Station Heritage Park & Trails on this property. The trail project would add approximately 20 miles of new publicly accessible hiking/biking trails into Westmoreland County, from Blairsville to Latrobe.

DARCee is also exploring the idea of linking this proposed park to other recreational amenities in the immediate area as well as the downtown business district through a network of designated walking trails and bike ways.

DARCee continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community under the direction of our Board of Directors and it's Officers utilizing the Main Street approach.

Our Board of Directors includes representatives from Derry, New Alexandria, and Derry Township.
