Mission Statement:
The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership driven action agency designed to meet community and economic development needs. It is a voluntary non-profit organization comprised of 1,000+ area business, professionals and individuals who have banded together to advance the commercial, financial, civic, agricultural, industrial and general interests of the community. It is a civic clearing house, a public relations counselor, a legislative advocate at the local, state and national levels of government, an information bureau, a research and promotion medium and an industrial prospector.
This organization operates under the direction of a 34-member board of directors that is elected by Chamber members. The Board, serving without pay, sets the policies of the Chamber.
The President serves as chief economic developer and the Executive Director supervises the daily operations of the Chamber. A full-time staff works under their day-to-day guidance, assisting the membership in accomplishing its goals.
Task forces, committees and councils are the backbone of the Chamber. They are the units that accomplish the organization's goals and objectives. The needs of the community and the policies of the Chamber determine the kind and number of these action groups.
Not all members are able to contribute time to serve on a committee, but their continuing financial support gives the Chamber the ability to accomplish its goals. Financed on a voluntary membership basis, the Chamber's expenses are apportioned among its membership by its "fair share" policy. Chamber membership is an investment in the future of member and community welfare. All licensed businesses and professionals are eligible for membership.
The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce has proudly been accredited by the United States Chamber of Commerce for some 20 years - and is one of only 500 chambers of the more than 6,500 in the nation to receive accreditation status. Accreditation is awarded for excellence in organization, programming, financing, staffing, physical facilities, membership and communications.
