Students and staff at East Elementary constantly strive for excellence in an ever-changing, ever-challenging environment. We look to the future to set our goals so that we may be better prepared for the excitement that our tomorrows will bring.
School Profile:
East Elementary School is proud to serve 561 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Students participate in a variety of instructional activities during the school day to stimulate learning. Twenty-nine classroom teachers provide instruction with an additional support staff totaling almost seventy meet the needs of the students. Student to teacher ratio averages 20:1. Extra-curricular activities such as AIM (Alternatives in Motion), Math Bowl, Teams, Spell Bowl Teams, PHHS Wrestling Mentoring program, Drama Club, Choir, are among a few of the activities. Athletics including 6th grade basketball for boys and girls and volleyball for 5th and 6th grade girls are also offered. Third grade students take swimming at the high school each year. All students are encouraged to participate in the Super Readers' Club, a voluntary reading program, and Math Masters, a fact-based time test program.
Curriculum is based on the Indiana State Standards and guided by South Madison Community School Corporation prioritized standards. Language Arts instruction is based on the Four-Block format with a special focus on 6+1 Writing Traits.
