Founded in 1991 with a grant from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, the Edison Greenways Group works with township, county, state, and federal organizations to raise awareness about open space preservation, environmental, and bicycle & pedestrian issues.

Edison Greenways Group (EGG) has played a major role in the preservation of open space in the Edison area. With 3 members of the Board on the Edison Township Open Space Advisory Committee, including the Chairman, EGG's knowledge of the remaining open space parcels, preservation techniques, and funding sources led in 1999 to the creation of an award winning Open Space Report for Edison Township. This has led to the acquisition of, and preservation of over 700 acres of land in Edison.
