History

Thoughts of organizing a service club in El Segundo were born in April/May of 1929 when a number of men had been playing work-up baseball on a field north of Pacific Electric Station.

Those thoughts sprouted wings and on Tuesday evening, September 24 1929, the Kiwanis club of El Segundo Charter party took place in the Community Methodist Church with an attendance of 168 people. Senator Frank L. Merriam who, later served as California's governor, was master of ceremonies.

The first noon meeting took place in October of 1929 in the American Legion Hall and has met continuously since that time except for a brief period during World War II.

The Kiwanis Club of El Segundo has been an important factor in the development of the community, in it World War II leadership in financial and other drives, defense projects and its varied other activities through the years.

Membership is available to individuals, families and corporations. Membership dues are $55 per month which includes lunch every Tuesday at the Hacienda. A one-time fee of $50.00 is charged at the time of election to active member status.
