English At Large provides free basic English (ESOL) and basic literacy instruction to adults in 20 Boston-area communities. Our students include adults who are learning English as another language as well as native English speakers with low literacy.
Lexington resident Mildred Gilman founded the Eastern Massachusetts Literacy Council in 1970 as a volunteer-based organization. Now known as English At Large, the organization is proud to have helped more than 10,000 students improve their English literacy skills and achieve their personal goals.
