About Us:
The first school in Enterprise was taught during the winter and spring of the year 1887, by Miss Susie Zurcher. However, in that same year D.E. Newell erected a two-story frame school house costing $1,000 and the largest in the county. Mr. Newell taught the school himself and intended to found an academy, but the following year he sold the building to the Enterprise School District.
The school was built in 1917. Total number of students was 141. Oct. 8, 1897, Wallowa County Chieftain: "The Enterprise public schools opened Monday with a total attendance of 89. Thirteen have so far entered the Academy department. These numbers will be greatly increased as soon as harvest is over and the fall work done."
