Environmental Awareness Of Resources And Threatened Habitats Limited
Our mission:
"To educate people about environmental issues, most importantly: animal ecology, endangered species and threatened habitats through the use of live animal presentations and hands-on activities. "
EARTH (Environmental Awareness of Resources and Threatened Habitats) Limited
is a grassroots, non-profit educational organization based at Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts. We exist to educate people about environmental issues such as animal ecology, endangered species and threatened habitats. Our education methods include the extensive use of live animal presentations and hands-on activities. Our presentations take place at our Eco-Education center at Southwick's Zoo as well as offsite as part of our traveling Zoomobile. The staff of Earth Ltd. presents a diverse range of programs to the public to increase awareness of environmental issues.
The main geographic focus of our education programs are the municipalities within a fifty-mile radius of Mendon, MA. Our secondary market, however, is all of New England. As the largest zoo in New England, Southwick's attracts 200,000 annual visitors from all six New England states and beyond. Three daily education programs at our Eco-Education center allow us to reach a great many of those visitors. Earth's Zoomobile conducts offsite presentations for more than 12,000 pre-school, elementary and secondary students. Zoomobile programs cover diverse topics, including Introduction to Animal Ecology, Endangered Species, Threatened Habitats, Animal Behavior, and Tropical Rainforests, which introduce the age-appropriate concepts of animal ecology to preschoolers through ninth graders. For children in grades 9-12, EARTH Limited's Outreach Program offers customized on-site programs to enrich the school or group's science curriculum. Animal Facilitated Therapy offers an innovative outreach experience for the population whose needs transcend the traditional educational format.
EARTH Limited also offers selected students the opportunity to visit tropical habitats and observe first hand the delicate and critical state of the environment. We will be offering a:
"Trip to the Tropics."
Although the education center at Southwick's Zoo has been providing programs since 1981, EARTH Limited was incorporated in 1999, EARTH Limited already has served more than 500,000 children and their parents. With substantial in-kind staff support from Southwick's Zoo, EARTH has presented more than 3,000 off-site and daily on-site educational programs. Funding is essential for us to continue serving the New England Area.
