AREA HOCKEY PLAYERS TAKE ON A NEW OPPONENT

 When a husband, father, and teammate is diagnosed with testicular cancer the hockey community responds.

Doylestown, PA June 20, 2013 - In support of fellow hockey player Phil Spinosa area hockey players have been working feverishly to plan the Inaugural Face-Off Against Cancer hockey tournament to be held September 7, 2013 at Aston Ice Works.  The event is to be an all-day tournament with 12 teams playing hockey, enjoying the all-day activities with their friends & families all while raising money to help offset out-of-pocket expenses of families battling cancer.  Activities will include food, drink, live entertainment, and games for the kids.

Background:

At age 34 wonderful husband to Jackie, and great father of Mikey (2 years) and Jimmy (1 year) was diagnosed with testicular cancer.  Phil consulted with doctors and his prognosis was favorable based on the early development of the tumor and the type of cancerous cells.

After recovery from surgery Phil sharpened his blades, taped up his stick and eagerly eyed the men’s spring league registration.  Unfortunately during the week of registration his six month blood work revealed an elevated level of cancerous cells.  A follow up appointment gave conformation that the cancer cells had returned and spread to his lymph nodes, needless to say Phil’s skates were hung up again. 

Today Phil is keeping up his spirits with the help of family and friends as he goes through four rounds of chemotherapy to rid his body of the cancer.
