The Mission of Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank is to feed the hungry in our service area by soliciting marketable food and other grocery products from all sources available to us, and judiciously distributing those goods to the needy through nonprofit charities who distribute such goods to the needy at no charge.
It is our intention to make all eligible charity agencies in our service area aware of our services and to encourage them to make optimal use of our services; to learn from those charity agencies what we may do to help them to more effectively serve their clients; and to share with them whatever we may have come to understand about how they may more effectively do that.
It is our intention to facilitate the development of food distribution capabilities where none now exist so as to assure that no hungry person in our service area lacks reasonable access to needed quantities of donated food; to do whatever we can to see to it that no wholesome food in this service area goes to waste; to develop and nurture relations with whatever food distribution organizations can help us to do that.
It is our intention to increase public awareness of hunger, its causes, and its consequences.
It is our intention to provide our services always without regard to race, national origin, sex, disability, age, religion, marital status, height, weight, or any other legally protected category, and exclusively for charitable purposes as described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
It is our intention to be an active part of the Feeding America network; to comply with their guidelines; to use Feeding America to keep informed about what other food banks have learned from their efforts; to use the network to share with other food banks whatever we have learned; and to do what we can generally to help other food banks serve their client communities.
It is our intention to do all this so efficiently, professionally, and cost-effectively as to become self-sufficient on our product distribution revenues.
