Finley-Sharon, District 19 located in Finley, North Dakota is primarily a rural area of 293 square miles. The current enrollment is 186 students. There are 123 students in K-8 and 63 students 9-12. Mr. Dahl is currently the school's superintendent and secondary principal. Mr. Babinski serves as the school's elementary principal and as the school's athletic director. There are currently 20 certified teachers on the staff. Special education services are provided by Griggs, Steele, and Traill Cooperative. The current taxable valuation is $4,500,890. The 2003-2004 operating budget is $1,475,367. The mill levy is 185 mills plus 10 for building and 5 for technology. All grades are located in a single building, which is modernized for technological education. On July 1, 2004 a new instructional television room (ITV) will open. The high school dropout rate is near zero. Students score higher than state and national averages on standardized tests. A high percentage of graduates go on to post secondary education, including four year colleges and universities. Finley-Sharon School offers a varied program in choral and instrumental music, mathematics through advanced algebra, all of the sciences with chemistry and physics offered alternate years, English, art, Spanish, FCCLA, FFA, agricultural education, PE including weight training, and an array of business/computer courses. Classes not offered at school will be offered via ITV. A technology coordinator works with staff to implement technology in each classroom. This helps increase teacher knowledge in programs, updates, and innovative teaching strategies. There is also a computer lab consisting of twenty computers, all internet accessible. Technology classes are offered in both agriculture and business education. The school district has an active extracurricular program with opportunities in sports, organizations, music, and speech. The FCCLA and FFA organizations are perennial winners in local and state competitions.
