Church History:

In 1869, African Americans of Calera organized the Bethel Baptist Church. The people worshipped in a small log cabin near The Colored Cemetery. The first cornerstone was dedicated by Reverend J. T. Renholm.

During this time, Baptisms took place not far from the church at "Town Springs." We were known as Bethel Baptist Church.First Baptist Church Calera has come a long way: from logs to bricks, from creek to baptismal pool, from outdoor plumbing to indoor plumbing, and from a few souls to a church full of souls.

Thanks to those who came before us and to those who will come after us. First Baptist Church Calera will continue to lift up the Lord's name in praise.
