History:
First Baptist Church of Clarksville was organized in the fall of 1847, under the leadership of Brother W. M. Pickett of Kentucky, with seven charter members.
The first church building was completed in the fall of 1850, and was on the site of what is now Clarksville Cemetery, on Washington Street. It had sixty-five members.
The second building was located on what is now the parking lot north of the public square. It was completed in June, 1885.
The present site on which our church stands was purchased in 1904, and a new brick building was completed in the fall of 1905. Sunday School enrollment was sixty-five, and church membership totaled one hundred, twenty-two.
Our first educational building (west) was finished in 1937, and additional growth made necessary the addition of the east building in 1952.
Our present sanctuary, finished in August, 1959, has a seating capacity of five hundred, thirty-five and provides office space, pastor's study, library, music director's study, and four additional adult classrooms and allows for the additon of a balcony.
