Missions:

The word missional was first coined in the early 1990s. It describes a way of thinking about being church.

Being missional means more than being mission-minded. Mission-minded churches have thought of themselves as sending and supporting the missionaries. In this case, missions is representative. The missionaries on the mission field represent the rest of the church who is at home praying and giving. Missions-minded churches have a missions program in their church.

Being missional includes all of this and more.

Missional churches not only send and support but also emphasize being and doing. In a missional church, every member is a missionary.

Missional churches think of missions as participative instead of representative.

Missional churches think of missions as the essence of the church not just one of the programs.
