Our History
The church started in Zion in 1953 when we were first a mission. We have
been at our present address 3001 W. 9th St. since 1965. Some of our members
who have been here from the start are still God's warriors.
We have two service times on Sunday mornings, 8:30 and 11:00 to worship and
a 9:45 time for a Bible study to get more personal with God's word.
Wednesday evenings at 6:30 is a prayer and worship time. We are the mother
church to six other churches that have started around the Chicago area, and
we thank God for that.
Our ministries and small groups are an excellent way to get involved in the
church.
There is at least one mission trip each year that our church goes on and is
supported by our members, for if we do not go into the world, who will?
The Future
While churches in other cities and towns are dying, First Baptist Church is
thriving. We continue to strive for ways to touch the hearts of others.
America is in a state of moral decline and we believe that the message of
Jesus can change lives to all who receive Him as Savior and Lord.
We are a body of believers committed to worshipping and serving Jesus
Christ. We join with likeminded Southern Baptist 's in spreading the gospel
around the world.
Basic Beliefs
We want you to be a part of the blessings of God in our church. Church
membership is a matter of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and
experiencing believer's baptism by immersion. It is an outward expression of
an inward experience.
