Mr. and Mrs. Norman Darby hosted a meeting to discuss the planting of a Christian Church in Tarpon Springs, Florida On May 16, 1974. Those present included ministers and members of nearby churches, and representatives of Suncoast Evangelizing Association.

Wednesday night prayer meeting began immediately. The first Sunday service was held in the Community Room at First Federal Savings and Loan Association on June 23rd. At the close of that service, twelve people indicated their desire to become charter members, and First Christian Church was born.

On the occasion of the church's first anniversary, George Hunt Jr. presented the congregation with five acres of land along Keystone Road. Shortly afterwards, the congregation voted to build its first chapel and education building.
