What We Believe

First Presbyterian Church of Rising Sun is affiliated with the Evangelical Reformed Presbyterian Church, an emerging Presbyterian denomination which holds fast to the historic Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scripture.  This can be summarized in the 5 "solas" of the Reformation.

Sola Scriptura - The Bible Alone is the standard for all doctrine and practice.

Sola Gratia - Grace Alone on God's behalf accounts for every aspect of a Christian's salvation.

Solo Christo - Christ Alone - A Christian's salvation is accomplished by the sufficiency of Christ alone.

Sola Fide - Faith Alone, totally apart from man's works prior to, or after conversion is the manner by which we receive salvation from our sins.

Soli Deo Gloria - The Glory of God Alone - All that happens in the world is for the Glory of God alone.

The Confessional Standards of First Presbyterian Church of Rising Sun is, consistent with the Evangelical Reformed Presbyterian Church :

The the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger Catechism and the Shorter Catechism, subordinate to the Holy Scriptures, as adopted by the first American Presbyterian Assembly of 1789, including their proof texts.
