Mission Statement:
To build a ministry that reestablishes confidence in God, the body of Christ, Pastors and or Preacher in the local assembly in the communities where we live.
History:
1905 During an era when Blacks endured a difficult life; there was desire to begin a church for believers. Rev. Jim Sharp organized as the Morning Glory Baptist Church. The name was later changed to Saint John Baptist Church.
1923 - 1953 Rev. W. T. Talley, of Mineral Wells, TX was called to Pastor. Under his 30 year tenure the church grew from 14 to 1000. The name of the church was changed to GREATER Saint John Church.
1946 Ground was broken in October for the erection of a new church.
1954 - 1959 The next succession came the first of March in 1954 by way of Rev. L. C. Henagar. He was given the charge to complete the new church project. At a cost of $95,000.00 the Lord's house was completed and the congregation entered two months later. During his brief tenure the church underwent a series of crisis, which eventually led to a split of the congregation.
1959 While some decided to move to another location on Sunday, October 18, 1959; some of the original members remained steadfast, reorganized and re-entered the 19th St. location the following Wednesday. The church was re-named First Saint John Missionary Baptist Church.
1960 A fiery minister from Bryan, TX. by the name of Rev. L. B. Moss, was called to serve as pastor. Under his leadership the course of the church was re-chartered and the church continued to grow. During his tenure of 33 years, a church parsonage and the land adjacent to the church was purchased. Also, central heat and air condition was installed in the sanctuary. In 1972 the education wing was added.
1980 The City of Fort Worth began an expansion of highway interstate 30. This expansion would mean that the church would have to relocate. Property at 2401 East Berry seemed to be an ideal location for the new church. On November 7, 1982 the congregation entered the new Berry street edifice.
1994 Due to the illness of Pastor Moss the pulpit was declared vacant and a search for a new pastor commenced.
1995 The first day of July Rev. Kenneth Bernard Spears began as Pastor. The church began a "new day" transformation into ministry. Membership grew to over 4000, the debt of the church was retired, classroom buildings were purchased, transport vehicles were purchased, a renovation of the current facility, full-time staff, and the establishment of a permanent church savings and investment program are amongst the many developments continuing to take place
