So what is a UMC anyway? And how did it get here first? Do the letters stand for Unusually Merciful Christians? Or Untidy Mutant Cats? or...actually, UMC stands for United Methodist Church. We are an outgrowth of a movement that was started in the 18th century by a priest of the Church of England, John Wesley. He was especially concerned with spiritual practices that would establish a vital faith ... a faith with feet and hands ready to make a difference in the world. But some people thought we were so hung up on the methods of Christian spirituality that they started calling us methodists. This was not a friendly term, but the name stuck anyway. The United Methodist Church still places great value in a faith that works. Here at Menominee First UMC, we live out our faith in a similar way. Here you will find many opportunities for spiritual growth through learning, praying, being together, and sharing the sacraments with one another . We also work to make a difference in our world in a variety of ways. You are invited to come for a visit anytime ... or contact us if your want to know more.
