About Us
Friends of Deer Creek was incorporated five years ago by a group of local citizens. The purposes for organizing the group were, and continue to be:
-to monitor water quality
-to monitor the health of the flora and fauna
-to assist and to report to all concerned government agencies
-to report periodically to the public
-to protect, to restore, and to enhance watershed resources
-to serve as an educational resource and clearing house for the community of information about the Deer Creek basin and tributaries.
Vision Statement
We envision Deer Creek as a healthy stream enjoyed by all, linking together a watershed corridor full of wildlife and forests, and a community conscientious of its care.
Shared Ideas
Return Deer Creek to the same quantifiable state that it was before the beginning of disturbance (prior to mid 1800s mining)
Involved, educated community
Grandchildren can swim and fish in Deer Creek without health problems
Salmon can migrate up the creek
Banks naturally protected from erosion
Clear, healthy, river meeting the community's social and economic needs
Appropriate quality to appropriate ecosystems
People are excited about the stream... they are part of the solution
Encourage awareness of personal actions and consequences for the creek
Promote health and enjoyment of watershed for everyone
Give native biology a chance
Two efforts to synthesize the above.
"To develop a conscience in the community for the benefit of the watershed"
"Promote Deer Creek consciousness"
