Baby Jordan was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), which means he was born without any T-cells in his immune system. He contracted many infections and underwent many surgeries, but lost the fight on July 1, 2013, at just shy of 9 months old. All profits from this fun run and walk will be donated to his memorial trust fund. That fund will be used in assisting in spreading awareness of early SCID screening. If Jordan would have been screened earlier, he would have had a 35% better chance of survival.
The run and walk is a timed 5K in Forest Grove, Oregon. All participants who register before September 28 receive a T-shirt and a white SCID-awareness ribbon. No pets are allowed, but wheelchairs and strollers are welcome. The race kicks off at 10am. Online and mail-in registration close on October 9 at noon, but race day registration is available for a $5 increase in registration fees per person.
