The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer citizen organization. With assistance from the Office of Emergency Management, citizens train for disasters of all types and learn how to assist their families and neighbors until help arrives.
The Galveston County CERT is also very heavily involved in the Special Needs Evacuation Tracking system. The CERT volunteers are critical to the coordination of the evacuation of our special needs population of the county in the event of impending disaster. They are charged with the logging of information regarding the evacuees and the property they are evacuating with.
CERT members are trained in disaster medical operations, light search and rescue and small fire supression.
Persons of all abilities are welcome and have a place in the Galveston County CERT.
