Gamewell Elementary School will provide a positive learning environment that enables intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and moral development for all students. Students will be challenged with high expectations using research-based strategies that address individual student needs. We will model and teach empathy, cooperation, problem solving, and appreciation of cultural diversity. We will partner with our families in valuing, empowering, and celebrating children.
History
Gamewell Elementary School is located in the Foothills of Western North Carolina. Approximately 600 students in grades K-5 are enrolled at the school. With leadership from our principal and assistant principal, a total of 42 certified staff and 41 associate staff members strive to make learning a positive experience for all students.
We are fortunate to have five National Board Certified Teachers at Gamewell Elementary School. They are Ms. W. Greene, Mrs. Moffitt, Mrs. Sharpe, Mrs. Triplett, and Ms. Tucker. Several candidates are currently working on the certification process.
Several special programs are available to GES students, including Compass Lab, Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, Math Facts in a Flash, Sonday and CRISS Reading remedial instruction, etc. We piloted DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) program with our primary students during the 2003-2004 school year, and will continue the program this year.
North Carolina Department of Instruction has recognized Gamewell Elementary School as a School of Distinction and a High Growth School for the fourth year in a row. With 91% of our students at or above grade level last year, we are a Caldwell County School of Excellence, but we won't be satisfied until 100% of our students are on grade level.
When the School Board held a Community Meeting at West Caldwell, Mrs. Burch and Mrs. Vincent prepared and presented a status report which gives a good overview of our school. Look for the "Status Report" link on the left side to see it.
