Genre Baker was 8-years-old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He has been in remission since June 2009 and is doing well. When Genre came home from his initial 14-day hospital stay he decided that every child diagnosed with cancer needs a handheld video game. As he has moved along this path his ideas have continued to grow and have developed into the many services we provide today. Genre has maintained a positive outlook and wants to reach out to other children who have been diagnosed with cancer.

 

Genre's Kids with Cancer Fund, GKWCF, was formed by his family & friends in November 2009 in honor of Genre.

 

Each child diagnosed with cancer at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh will receive a handheld gaming system or two new video games to go with the system they already own. The games truly help the children escape the disease and pass the many hours spent in treatment and transfusion.

 

GKWCF has partnered with several golf facilities and pros that have committed their time and provide free golf lessons to kids who are oncology patients at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

 

We realize that many costs associated with pediatric cancer are not medical. GKWCF will provide whatever assistance we can to relieve some of the financial burdens families may encounter.

 

Photographers have teamed up with GKWCF to provide free photo services to kids who are oncology patients at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

 

GKWCF volunteers are willing to share their experiences and practical advice. We find that the compassion and understanding shared between families with a common cancer bond is invaluable.

 

It is our mission to support children and families- emotionally, financially, and spiritually on their journey through pediatric cancer.
