About Us:
The League of Women Voters is a grassroots, nonpartisan political organization of women and men. It was founded in 1920, and membership was opened to men in 1974.
The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) is active in all fifty states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
The LWV of Connecticut consists of two distinct organizations: the League of Women Voters of Connecticut Education Fund, which sponsors activities to help Connecticut voters become better informed on current issues and active participants in government; and the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, which takes action by advocating for public policies supported by our members.
We are nonpartisan. We neither support nor oppose political parties or candidates.
We are advocates. We work to influence public policy through education and advocacy. We act only after study and member agreement to achieve solutions in the public interest on key community issues at all governmental levels.
Mission:
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization of men and women, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
