History:
On a cold January morning in 1976, a small nucleus of about 35 people held their first worship service at the Dracut Middle School on Lakeview Avenue. Comprised mostly of younger people in their twenties who attended the Fellowship Bible Church in North Andover but lived in the Greater Lowell area, this tight-knit group of believers stepped out in faith to follow the Biblical pattern of Church planting.
In 1975, Pastor Joseph Stringer of the Fellowship Bible Church recognized the zeal for the Lord that was intrinsic in these believers. Their faithfulness in attending morning and evening services, as well as Wednesday Prayer Meeting and weekly Bible studies was an encouragement to Pastor Stringer and the older more established believers at Fellowship. Pastor Stringer sensed the Lord's leading in beginning a work in the Lowell Dracut area.
Pastor Stringer contacted Pastor Robert Bailey in Wisconsin, who was chosen to shepherd the young flock. On January 4, 1976, the Grace Bible Church of Dracut held its first Lord's Day service. The assembly purchased a 16-acre tract of land that included an old farmhouse, suitable for a parsonage. The group of committed believers grew week by week as the Lord saw fit. In 1978 construction began on the church building and the dedication took place in August of 1979.
