Mission:
Gwinnett Ballet Theatre performs to a variety of audiences. Two major productions are offered each year at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center. GBT's "The Nutcracker" is one of Atlanta's most popular Nutcracker productions. It will be celebrating 31 years of delighting audiences in 2012. The Nutcracker, held the first three weekends in December for a total of 16 performances, is also a unique and effective training ground for many of Atlanta's pre-professional dancers. The Spring Concert is held in March. In 2013, the Spring Concert will feature "Giselle." Past productions have included "Firebird," "Midsummer Night's Dream," and "Alice in Wonderland."
GBT is also privileged to belong to the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association, (SERBA,) a member of the national organization Regional Dance America. Each May, GBT dancers perform at SERBA's annual festival held in a rotating location around the southeast. GBT is an Honor Company of SERBA. Juried selections are proudly performed to an audience of our dancers' peers as well as to nationally and internationally renowned teachers and artistic directors from many prestigious dance companies and organizations.
On a more local level, GBT is always eager to share the love of dance with the Atlanta area community. GBT has performed in festivals such as Barefoot in the Park. Nutcracker previews have been performed in such places as the Mall of Georgia, Avenue Webb Gin, Discover Mills Shopping Center, and for senior and rehabilitation centers. Senior groups at churches such as Trinity Lutheran Church are entertained twice yearly, and GBT dancers have eagerly participated in fundraisers for other non-profits such as the Mitochondrial Walk.
