Habitat for Humanity of Cherokee County is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that works in partnership with all people in need to build decent, affordable housing. The houses are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Our mission is to empower families, build communities, and create hope through a dynamic home-building effort by inviting people from all walks of life to work together in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Cherokee County. In the spring of 1991, the community recognized a need for a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Cherokee County (HFHCC). This affiliate would provide low income families not only adequate housing but the opportunity to own their own home. The first family moved into their home in 1993. In 2006, a $375,000 infrastructure grant was awarded to HFHCC for the development of Hope Acres from the Appalachian Council of Governments on behalf of the City of Gaffney. In order to maintain this grant, HFHCC needed to build five homes by July 2008 and four additional homes by December 30, 2010. HFHCC completed the first task of building five homes by deadline and are in the process of building the final four.
Over the years, HFHCC has built twenty-one (21) new homes and renovated one (1) foreclosed home. The affiliate is also in the process of building four (4) new homes and renovating another. More importantly, HFHCC has provided 75 people the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning their home.
