Hambden Elementary is a kindergarten through fifth grade building, rich in history, located in the Chardon Local School District in Hambden Township, Ohio. The original building was built in 1923 after the community passed a $30,000 bond issue in 1920. The school building first consisted of four rooms upstairs, a basement, a well, a boiler room and a room for preparing lunches. Additions were made in 1951, adding a classroom and an all purpose room, and in 1963, adding a kindergarten wing. In 1981, Hambden School was closed due to low enrollment in the district. The school reopened to the delight of the Hambden community in 1988 and our current enrollment is approximately 315 students.

Hambden School provides a wide range of educational and arts activities to support our students in their journey through elementary school. A course of study has been developed for each subject area and adopted by the Chardon Board of Education. Grades K and 1 are completely self-contained classrooms. Grades 2 and 3 are departmentalized for science and social studies. Grade 4 has some departmentalization within science and social studies. Grade 5 is departmentalized for reading, math, science, and social studies. Achievement and ability testing occurs periodically throughout the elementary years. Competency testing is administered to grades 1-5 in the spring.
