Harbor City International School is a public, tuition-free, college preparatory, charter high school.  We are a small community that nurtures a sense of belonging and academic excellence.

HCIS is located one block east of the Depot and Main Library in the historic Duluth Plumbing Supply building.  We are one block from the bus line and are surrounded by parking meters and adjacent to a parking ramp.  Free parking can be found within a few blocks.

·      Volunteer experiences available for academic tutoring and academic mentoring. 

·      Commit to a weekly one-on-one academic mentoring relationship tutoring an individual during a class, assist several students within a class, or assist several students with homework after school. 

·      Commit to a schedule that works for you. 

·      Give general academic assistance, or identify a content area in which you wish to specifically tutor.

·      Volunteers are welcomed both during the school day and after school.

·      We offer Homework Lab after school from 3p.m. to 4p.m. on Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 

·      Homework Lab is a dedicated space and time to support students with ongoing assignments. 

·      Preferred times during the school day vary depending on the needs of teachers and students.

·      If you are interested, please contact us!

·      Tutors can start immediately and continue as long as you are able within the school year. 

·      Application procedure for all volunteers includes application, background check, and orientation.

·      Additional training and support are always available.
