Hernando Youth Orchestra

Post Office Box 623
352-544 8105

The Hernando Youth Orchestra Inc., a non-profit Florida Corporation, was formed in the summer of 2007. We aim to meet the needs of the community by providing an orchestra for young people and help find music scholarships for youth who cannot afford an instrument and/or lessons to participate.

Membership is open to anyone under the age of 21 provided they have some level of proficiency on their chosen instrument. In order to encourage all to participate no audition is required for the main orchestra. String players desiring more advanced work have the opportunity to play in a string quartet which does require an audition

Since it's foundation, the HYO has performed twenty four free concerts, including two for the city of Brooksville, Christmas concerts at the Hernando County's Band Shell and four for the Hernando Fine Art Council including three for  "Art in the Park"

The orchestra is funded by grants, community organizations and individual sponsors.

The Orchestra wants you—if you are a child (or know a child) age 5-21 interested in playing an instrument. Don’t know how to read music or play an instrument yet? No problem! We offer low-cost lessons in music theory, sight reading, and instrument instruction.

Starting January 18th, our new rehearsal location is The Heather Community Center, 9100 Nakoma Way, Weeki Wachee.

Our new rehearsal time is 3:30 to 5:00 on Sundays.

Rehearsals run from 3:30 - 5:00pm.

The Heather is on the Gulf side of Route 19, about 1.25 miles north of the intersection of Route 50 (Cortez). Using the main entrance to The Heather, continue straight ahead until the road ends in a T. Turn right at the T. The Community Center building is on the right, surrounded by lakes.
