History of Our Festival:
1987 was the first year of the Lions Club Balloon Festival and Fair, was held in Highland Village, Texas. There were two balloon flights scheduled during the one day event. With the help of the North Texas Ballooning Association, there were a total of eighteen balloons involved. The festival, with twenty five craft booths, drew an estimated two thousand people.
2017 was the 30th Annual Highland Village Lions Balloon Festival. This annual three day event had live bands, a food court, a car show, and vendors and exhibitors booths. There was also a Kids Zone, with inflatables and a petting zoo. There also was a Poster Contest for local school children as part of our activities. There were up to 20 hot air balloons providing us with glows each evening and launches each morning, weather permitting. We also have a tethered balloon ride. Finally, unique to our festival, we provided vision screenings at scheduled times throughout the festival. The Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival, at Unity Park, in Highland Village, Texas, has grown to be the largest scheduled event in Denton County with approximately 16,000-18,000 people attending in 2017.
