This historic building on Hwy 142 dates back to the 1924, and replaces the original Newborn High School, which was housed in the former Palmyra Institute building.
The town of Newborn owns the school and leases it to the Newborn Area Heritage Trust for a nominal amount. The nonprofit NAHT rents the facility out and maintains it, but in 2009 the roof was declared unsafe and the expense was beyond anyone's pocket! Several generous individuals stepped forward with donations and bequests, particularly the Guy Jones Memorial Fund and the Jeanette Adams Zeigler Charitable Remainder Trust, and work is almost completed! Now that the building is safe and stabilized, next steps are to continue to improve the appearance of the building.
